from like lightning inside lightning

8. at the Millennium Poetry Conference

Do you want to worship the dead
Or do you want the living thing ?

Shelley, Blake, Hardy, Keats
Easy to quote -
Conveniently out of reach

While we stand here in the shadows
Dying on our feet -

And do you have any idea
Of how they're turning in their graves ?

Of the insult you pay them
With your 'respect'

Don't you think they know
That if they were here now

You'd ignore them as you did
In your reasonable gardens ?
